About Us
The American Friends of LAMDA is a US-based independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) which supports the work of LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art), a world-leading drama school based in London. Since its founding, AFLAMDA supporters have helped make the Academy's vocational training possible for American students, providing funding to LAMDA for scholarships and financial aid, and widening access to people from all backgrounds and economic circumstances.
We train and nurture exceptional artists - empowering and inspiring young people from across the globe. We have been fuelling the dramatic arts for over 150 years - teaching the craft, developing talent and igniting the imaginations of the next generation of actors, directors, stage managers, technicians and audience members.
Each year hundreds of Americans enjoy LAMDA’s unique ensemble-based dramatic training through its internationally acclaimed full-time, summer and semester courses.
LAMDA auditions approximately 400 young people each year in seven major American cities for a place on its highly sought after full-time courses.
Famous LAMDA alumni born or living in the US include David Abeles, James Bundy, Brian Cox, Tony Goldwyn, Zeljko Ivanek, Stacey Keach, Dana Ivey, Swoozie Kurtz, John Lithgow, Benito Martinez, David Oyelowo, Rico Ross, Rita Wilson and the late Barbara Tarbuck.
LAMDA believes that drama has the power to transform lives. The American corporations, foundations and individuals that support us through AFLAMDA share this belief and recognise the contribution LAMDA makes to enhance the lives of its students and audiences.
