LAMDA Lunch with David Oyelowo

We were thrilled to welcome back acting graduate David Oyelowo last week as he joined us for a LAMDA lunch.

Our LAMDA lunches provide an informal environment for students to hear from alumni and working industry professionals from a range of fields. Hosted by Director of LAMDA Sarah Frankcom and 2nd year student Alistair Nwachukwu, David spoke to students about his career since graduating from LAMDA. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and receive advice as they prepare for their careers in the creative industries and beyond. American scholarship students were inspired to hear how it was a scholarship to LAMDA that changed David’s life and enabled him to become a great actor, director and producer.

Speaking about returning to LAMDA, David said: “It’s surreal being back at LAMDA, but it’s amazing to be at the place where really my career as an actor began and I wouldn’t have the career I have without this place.

I’ve lived by this saying which is that the difference between good and great is hard work. But I also say the difference between good and great when it comes to being an actor is training and LAMDA is one of the best you can get in the world and it’s made all the difference to me as an actor.”

We also asked David if he had any advice for people thinking about auditioning for drama school.
